We Did It

An AI interpretation of what it will look like when Phase Five, now in progress is complete.

We did it! Yesterday, we reached another milestone in the construction of the Fungus & Mungus HO Scale model railroad. The last of the mountains, hills, and valleys have been constructed and had their base coats of paint applied. We now switch from construction/building to the artistic part of layout building.

So, here’s where we stand:

  • Phase One: Construction of the benchwork, the lumber and plywood that support the layout: 100% Complete.
  • Phase Two: Electrical. This is the main bus wiring that distributes both DCC and DC electricity to all corners of the layout: 100% Complete.
  • Phase Three: Trackwork: Laying the track, connecting the track to the DCC BUSS, installing turnouts and turnout controls, connecting the over 20 sound and animation effects, and bringing all the electrical and electronic parts together: 100% Complete.
  • Phase four: Terraforming: Constructing the mountain, hills, valleys, rivers, streams, and ponds, and applying the base coats of paint: 100% Complete.

The layout is 100% operational, but barren… devoid of the details that will bring it to life.

Up till now, it’s all been carpentry, electrical, electronics, sculpting, and painting. All of it is craftsman-type work. With the start of Phase Five, it becomes artistic. Now it’s choosing the color palette for the scenery, filling in the details as those mountains, hills, and valleys come to life, and adding the artistic touches that will make it seem real.
